In Rostov-on-Don, a monument to Alexander Popov, the outstanding Russian scientist and inventor of the first radio, was installed in 2009. The monument is in the form of a bust and is located near the building of the Radio Frequency Center of the Southern Federal District, whose employees fully financed its creation and installation. The bust stands on a granite pedestal with the inscription: "A. S. POPOV, great Russian scientist, inventor of radio."

The installation of the monument in Rostov is not accidental. It was near this city that Popov tested the first civilian radio station in 1901, intended for coordinating the movement of cargo ships at the mouth of the Don. Thus, the name of Alexander Popov and this important event in the history of radio are closely linked to the Southern capital of Russia.
