In Novorossiysk, on Cape Love, a monument has been erected in honor of the fallen fishermen, which has reminded us for 60 years of the power of the sea, capable of taking human lives in an instant. This monument is recognized as an object of federal significance.

In the center of the cape, on a small pedestal, there is a composition of three fishermen looking out at the raging sea. A granite slab is affixed to the monument with the inscription: "To the crew of the seiner 'Urup' of the fishing collective 'Chernomorets', who perished during a storm near Poti on February 21, 1953."

The slab lists the names of the victims of the tragedy: Panasenko A. F. (foreman), Salikin N. S. (assistant captain), Ruzhitsky V. I. (mechanic), Dombrov I. P. (assistant mechanic); fishermen: Khorolets V. I., Piskunov A. K., Shevchuk V. P., Butko A. E., Demiryans A. S., Kagaridi E. I., Polyakov V. A., Zdesenko A. I.

In February, during the anchovy fishing season, a storm warning was issued on February 21, 1953. The wind reached 9 points, and the waves rose to 5-6 meters. However, the captain of the seiner 'Urup' was determined to preserve the catch of anchovy in the hold.

Due to the queue for unloading fish in Sukhumi, it was decided to head to Poti. 20 miles from the city, near the Kulevi River, the seiner ran aground.

On February 23, the port captain of Poti issued an urgent order to rescue the seiner 'Urup'. Rescue vessels quickly arrived at the ship and saw it being covered by waves, with 6-7 people hanging from the icy mast. Communication with the seiner was already lost, and the engine was not working.

Both the military tug 'Platon' and the port tug 'Chakva' went to help the fishermen. However, it was impossible to approach closely due to the risk of also running aground. The military attempted to lower a lifeboat, but it was smashed by the waves. Rescuers threw life rings, but they did not reach their target. By the end of the day, no one was left on the mast.

Later it became known that two (the captain and the assistant) were saved and made it to shore. The assistant captain soon died from hypothermia, while the captain lost his sanity from the ordeal. A total of 12 fishermen perished. The youngest was 20 years old, the oldest, 45. They were buried in the city cemetery in Novorossiysk.

In memory of the fallen fishermen, a composition of bronze sculptures was created. The monument was opened on August 2, 1959. Sculptors: N. V. Timoshin and R. M. Mokrushev.
