In Volgodonsk, one of the main attractions is the monument to the famous Cossack ataman Matvey Ivanovich Platov, a hero of the wars against Napoleon and the founder of Novocherkassk. The monument was unveiled on August 12, 2007, and its author is sculptor Yegor Derdiashchenko, who worked on the monument for about six months.
The sculpture is made of forged copper. To create an accurate image of the renowned ataman, the master carefully studied his biography and, together with metal artist Viktor Vasilyev, worked on every detail. For creating this image, Yegor Derdiashchenko was awarded a medal, and the monument itself has become a source of pride for the townspeople, with its anniversaries regularly covered in local media.
Unfortunately, over time, the pedestal of the monument began to deteriorate, and it had to be replaced. However, thanks to the attention of local residents, there is no need to worry about the fate of the monument.
