In Zheleznovodsk, Stavropol Krai, a monument to Fedor Gaaz, the discoverer of the Caucasian Mineral Waters and a Russian doctor of German descent, has been installed at the lower part of the Cascade staircase.

The bronze bust of the "holy doctor" weighing 100 kg now adorns the colonnade in this part of the staircase. The height of the monument is almost 3 meters. The monument is surrounded by stones symbolizing mountains, with an inscription in two languages: "To the son of the German people, who served Russia with all his heart."

In spring 2020, a Russian-German forum dedicated to Gaaz took place in Zheleznovodsk. Fedor Gaaz, known as the "holy doctor," was a physician and philanthropist who worked in Russia in the 19th century. In 1809 and 1810, he visited the Caucasus to study mineral springs, researched them in Kislovodsk, discovered springs in Zheleznovodsk, and was the first to report on the springs in Yessentuki.

He also noted the hot and warm springs of Mount Goryachaya in Pyatigorsk, one of which, Yelizavetinsky, became the main drinking source of the city. After his travels, Gaaz outlined his observations in "Remarks on the Caucasian Mineral Waters" and wrote a treatise "My Journey to the Alexandrovsky Waters in 1809 and 1810," which contributed to the widespread use of healing springs and the construction of resorts.
