Monument to First Graders in Rostov-on-Don

Фото 1
In Rostov-on-Don, one of the most interesting monuments is the bronze monument to a first grader, created by sculptor Dmitry Lyndin. Unveiled on September 1, 2011, on Gorky Street, it depicts a boy sitting on a school globe with a book in his hands. The bronze schoolboy is joyfully laughing. The monument weighs half a ton and reaches a height of about 2 meters, while looking not bulky but very cute, evoking smiles and childhood memories from passersby.

Interestingly, the idea for the monument was developed based on a sketch created by children. A competition for the best sketch was held among students in grades 7 and 9. As a result, many works were submitted, and the winner was Anna Nikolaeva, a student in the 9th 'B' class of Gymnasium No. 36. Funding for the monument's creation was provided by numerous sponsors who supported this creative project.
