Monument to the First Teacher

Фото 1
Among the many interesting and abstract monuments in Rostov, a monument dedicated to the first teacher stands out, which was unveiled on September 1, 2012, near Rostov School No. 78. According to the sculptors' idea, the teacher is depicted alongside first-graders, a boy and a girl, hurrying to their first lesson.

The sculpture is 3.5 meters tall, and above the heads of the bronze teacher and children is an arch symbolizing the important role of educators. They are the first to greet children at school and bear the responsibility for preparing them for adult life beyond school. The work on the monument took six months, and one of its authors is Sergey Oleshnya, a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, known for his contemporary sculptures in Rostov-on-Don, including monuments to Elizabeth Petrovna and the water supply.
