Monument to the Sailors of the Azov Flotilla

Фото 1
Near the fortress rampart, in the seaport, there is a monument popularly known as the "Torpedo Boat." Its location here is not accidental, as the history of Azov is inextricably linked to the sea and the fates of sailors.

During the Great Patriotic War, the mouth of the Don River and the coast of the Taganrog Bay were defended by sailors of the Don detachment of the Azov Flotilla. Initially, they used fishing vessels equipped with machine guns, but later powerful combat torpedo boats, like the one installed on the pedestal, were put into service.

The monument was unveiled in 1975 and has since served as a stern reminder of the war years and the fallen Azov sailors.
