The monument to Maxim Gorky, located on the Fedorovskaya embankment in Nizhny Novgorod, depicts the great Russian writer in a thoughtful pose of a creator.

Created in 1957 from bronze by sculptor I.P. Shmagun, the monument represents the writer in a relaxed pose, sitting on a stone and enjoying the surrounding landscape. Maxim Gorky leans on his constant cane and observes the confluence of two great rivers, the Oka and the Volga.

Initially, it was planned to install a different monument on the embankment, created by the renowned sculptor Vera Mukhina. However, after an art exhibition in Moscow, it was replaced with the one that can be seen today. The monument was moved to the Green City and installed on the embankment in 1972.
