This unique monument is a granite arch stele, set on a stepped base of white marble and topped with the Holy Cross. It was erected in 2010 on the grounds of the historical and architectural museum-reserve in honor of the city's millennium. The monument is named 'Oath of Prince Pozharsky' in honor of the mosaic panel created by People's Artist of Russia V.I. Nesterенко. Above the panel, under the arch, is a gilded medallion with the coat of arms of Yaroslavl. In September 2010, celebrations were held in Yaroslavl for its 1000th anniversary. The city's history holds pages about the heroic struggle for independence during the Time of Troubles. From April to July 1612, when Moscow was occupied by Polish-Lithuanian troops, Yaroslavl temporarily became the capital, and here Prince Dmitry Pozharsky formed the Second People's Militia, which liberated the country from the invaders. According to legend, at the site of the current monument, Prince Pozharsky prayed for help in victory. This event inspired Vasily Nesterенко and other project creators to create the stele, symbolizing the people's aspiration for unity and the strength of the Russian Spirit.
