The monument is dedicated to the outstanding military figure of the 18th and 19th centuries, General Field Marshal and Commander of the Russian troops during the storming of Anapa, Ivan Vasilyevich Gudovich.

Its unveiling was a significant event for the Cossack community, as Ivan Gudovich, a hero of the Russo-Turkish wars, made a tremendous contribution to the development of Russian statehood and the establishment of Cossack culture in Kuban.

The monument is located in a historically important place: here, in the 18th century, stood the wall of the Turkish fortress that Gudovich's troops stormed. In the local history museum, located nearby, one can learn all the details of those events.

The monument features a bronze bust of Gudovich, created by the renowned sculptor, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Apollonov, and is set on a high granite pedestal. On Gudovich's chest are depicted the orders: St. Andrew the First-Called, St. George, St. Vladimir, Alexander Nevsky, and St. Anna.

On the front of the pedestal is a bronze plaque with a relief inscription. The monument is situated in a shady square, to the right of the entrance to the Anapa local history museum.

The initiator of the monument's installation was Mikhail Serdyukov, the author of the All-Russian project "Alley of Russian Glory." He also participated in its installation and official unveiling.
