Monument to I.S. Turgenev in Oryol

Фото 1
The famous classic Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev was born and spent his early years in Oryol. A part of the Oka embankment, where he often walked with his nanny, was named "Turgenev's Shore" thanks to the writer Leskov. In 1968, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Turgenev's birth, a monument was erected at this site.

In the shade of the trees stands a polished pedestal made of black granite, on which the figure of the Russian classic is depicted. A group of masters, Bessarabsky, Atanov, and Sviridov, portrayed him sitting, with his hands folded on his knee. Turgenev looks somewhat pensive, his gaze directed towards the river, to the places where his youth was spent.
