On August 24, 2016, a monument to Alexander Khanzhonkov, an outstanding entrepreneur and founder of Russian cinema, was unveiled in Rostov-on-Don. The monument was created by the well-known sculptor from Rostov, Sergey Oleshny. The initiative to install the monument was led by journalist Lyubov Surkova, who started a campaign to commemorate this remarkable native of the Don region.

The project was realized through the efforts of a group of sculptors and architects, resulting in a magnificent monument. The sculptural composition features a bronze figure of Alexander Khanzhonkov with a camera from that era and an explanatory inscription on a granite pedestal.

The monument is located opposite the building of the Andreev Gymnasium, where young Khanzhonkov studied, and nearby was his film studio. The city also has two memorial plaques on the building of the school where the future father of Russian cinema studied.

The unveiling of the monument was a solemn event, attended by many honored guests. Among them were notable natives of Rostov, such as actress Irina Bezrukova and Dmitry Dibrov, as well as actress Irina Babenko and producer Alan Depardieu.
