In Rostov-on-Don, as in all cities of the Don region, the novel "Quiet Don" enjoys special popularity. Various establishments are named after its characters, monuments are dedicated to them, poems are written, and songs are sung. In 2013, a new attraction related to the heroes of the novel appeared on the Rostov embankment, a sculptural composition "Grigory and Aksinya in a Boat." The author of the monument, sculptor Sergey Oleshny, depicted an episode from the book "Quiet Don." The bronze monument became part of the program for the improvement of the Southern capital.
The composition represents Grigory and Aksinya sitting in a rowboat during a stroll along the Don. Aksinya is dressed in a festive dress with ruffles and lace, holding a small bouquet in her hands. Grigory is at the stern in military uniform. The bronze figures of the characters are depicted in life size. Between the sculptures is a bench where tourists often take photos. The bow of the boat is set on a pile of stones and raised, while the asymmetrical base is made of concrete and tiled. This monument is especially beloved by the residents of Rostov and the city's guests, who happily take pictures with the bronze figures of the heroes of "Quiet Don." Despite the passage of time, they remain alive in people's memories.
