The monument was unveiled on July 17, 2009, near the Annunciation Cathedral, next to the Stroganov family tomb. It features a bust of Sergey Grigorievich Stroganov, mounted on a rectangular pedestal. The inscription on the monument reads: "Count Sergey Grigorievich Stroganov. A gift from the Moscow State Academic Art and Industry University named after S. G. Stroganov."

Sergey Grigorievich Stroganov, count, participated in the Patriotic War of 1812, the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829, and the Crimean War of 1853-1856. He is best known as a patron, collector, and archaeologist. In 1825, he founded a free art school known as the Stroganov School.

Before the devastation of Novgorod, the Stroganov family moved to Podvinskoe, where two branches of the family emerged: the Solvychegodskaya and Totemskaya. The Stroganov estate was located in the western part of Solvychegodsk. The progenitor of the Vychegda Stroganovs, Ioanniky, or Anika, was an outstanding figure. Born a serf peasant, he became the main creditor of the Russian state, possessing a treasury that far exceeded that of the state.
