In Vyazma in 1916, during World War I, a boulevard was created that started from Upper Kaluzhskaya Street and ran along Station Road. It was named the Boulevard of the Second Patriotic War. In the center of the boulevard stood an obelisk made of sheet iron, painted to resemble light marble. At its top was the coat of arms of Vyazma, and on its sides were depicted imperial monograms and George crosses. Beneath them were engraved the names of the emperor, the tsarevich, adjutants Alexeev and Evert, General Smirnov, and the nurse Rimma Ivanova, who died in 1915 in Belarus and was posthumously awarded the Order of Saint George of the 4th degree. It was later planned to add the names of all the George knights from Vyazma and the district. The monument was solemnly opened on June 16, 1916.

In the 1920s, the monument was destroyed, but its pedestal remained until the 1960s.
