The monument to the heroes of World War I, officially named "To the Glorious Sons of the Fatherland, Cossacks and Mountaineers, Heroes of World War I," is located in the center of Krasnodar. It was unveiled on July 28, 2016, in memory of the events that took place from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918, when Russia participated in the war on the side of the Entente. Cossack and mountain units fought on distant fronts far from Kuban. More than 100,000 Cossacks and Circassian volunteers left the Kuban and North Caucasus for the war, of which about 30,000 perished. Over 30,000 were awarded various orders and medals, including four thousand who received the George Cross, one of the most prestigious awards of the Russian Empire.

The monument is located on Alexandrovsky Boulevard, near the "Aurora" monument, at the border of the Central microdistrict and the 40 Years of Victory district.

The composition depicts a Cossack and a mountaineer in traditional national costumes standing side by side, symbolizing the friendship and mutual assistance of all the peoples of the Caucasus in the face of mortal danger.

The sculptural ensemble, 2.4 meters tall, is made of bronze and marble and is a community project created with charitable funds raised by the residents of Kuban. The creation of the monument cost 9.3 million rubles. The authors of the monument are well-known Krasnodar sculptors Alan Kornaev and Valery Pchelin.
