The monument is dedicated to the hero of Borodino, General Alexei Yermolov, who commanded in the Caucasus from 1817. He created a line of fortresses from Grozny to Yekaterinodar (now Krasnodar) and contributed to the development of industry, trade, and education in the region.

Yermolov participated in the war with France and during the Patriotic War held the position of chief of staff of the first army, commanding a division and a corps. In 1827, he was retired for supporting the Decembrists. In 2008, in honor of the city's 130th anniversary, a monument to Yermolov was erected.

This monument is considered the largest in Russia dedicated to Yermolov. The bronze sculpture, 2.85 meters tall, is installed on a three-meter granite pedestal. It is located near the Pokrovsky Cathedral in the 'Nadezhda' park, next to the federal highway 'Caucasus'. The author of the monument is sculptor G. Myasnikov from Stavropol.

The decision to install the monument was made by the city council of Mineralnye Vody, and the fundraising for its creation was organized by the Mineralnye Vody branch of the Tersky Cossack Army under the leadership of O. V. Gubenko. The total cost of the project was 4 million rubles.
