The monument to F.M. Dostoevsky was solemnly opened on November 11, 2001, in honor of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian writer.
The bronze sculpture was created with funds raised by the city's residents, local enterprises and organizations, as well as church parishes of the Novgorod diocese. Many attendees at the ceremony, including the writer's great-grandson Andrei Dmitrievich, noted that this is the best sculptural representation of Dostoevsky.
