In the center of Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria, a monument to the Russian Empress Catherine the Great was unveiled on August 29, 2013. The solemn ceremony took place on the first day of autumn.

In anticipation of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, the opening of the monument to Catherine II took place in Tiraspol, who played a significant role in the history of the city. On the same day, a new Catherine Park was also opened, named in her honor.

The monument was installed in the city center, in the square named after Franz de Wollan, the architect of the Tiraspol fortress, opposite the monument to Alexander Suvorov. This location symbolizes that Suvorov on horseback is hurrying to report victory to his empress.

The monument is made of bronze, weighs one and a half tons, and stands about 4.5 meters tall. The chief architect of Tiraspol, Vitaly Goncharov, noted that the site for the monument was chosen so that it could be seen through the arch in the square. The sculptures of historical figures associated with the past of Transnistria, the empress and Generalissimo Suvorov, are aligned on the same line.

Goncharov emphasized that they discussed for a long time the most advantageous visual effect for the sculptural composition. In the end, they decided that Catherine on her throne looks at the approaching Suvorov, who is hurrying to announce the founding of the city.
