On the parapet of the Kremlin pedestrian bridge over the Volkhov River stands a bronze sculpture of a girl tourist, also known as the "Tired Tourist" or "Resting Tourist." The monument was ceremoniously opened on June 17, 2009, in honor of the 1150th anniversary of Veliky Novgorod. The then President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, attended the ceremony and took the opportunity to take a photo next to the girl.

The idea for the monument and its funding belong to the Novgorod philanthropist Nikolai Sumarokov. He also supported the creation of other sculptures in Novgorod, such as "Electrician," "Nizhny Novgorod Bear," "Cats on the Hunt," "Young Artist," "Moydodyr," "Bird Sirin," "Cabbage Monument," "Frightened Fisherman," and others. The sculptor Vadim Borovykh was directly involved in creating the "girl."

Sumarokov shared that the idea for the monument came to him after traveling the world, when he sadly returned to his almost unchanged hometown. Thus, he decided to "refresh" Veliky Novgorod.

Initially, Borovykh planned to depict the girl taking a selfie with her mobile phone. However, this idea was abandoned, and it was probably the right decision.

The monument turned out to be kind and romantic, and tourists happily take photos next to the "tourist." The coins they toss into the girl's shoe for "good luck" could very well go towards creating another monument.
