The bust of Academician I.P. Pavlov, made of marble, is installed in Sochi on Pirogova Street, house 10, next to the treatment building of the "Zapolyarie" sanatorium. The monument, unveiled in 1965, was created by sculptor A.I. Kolobov.
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, born on September 14 (26), 1849, in Ryazan and died on February 27, 1936, in Leningrad, was an outstanding Russian and Soviet scientist, physiologist, and vivisectionist. He founded the science of higher nervous activity and a physiological school. In 1904, Pavlov was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research in the physiology of digestion. He became an academician of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1907 and held the position of Actual State Councilor. Pavlov also led the Society of Russian Physicians in memory of S.P. Botkin in 1906 and 1913.
Pavlov is known for classifying physiological reflexes into conditional and unconditional, as well as studying the psychophysiology of temperament types and the properties of nervous systems that underlie individual behavioral differences.
