The monument to Pavel Lazarev is located in the center of the Novorossiysk embankment on Novorossiysk Republic Street, opposite the "Cruiser Mikhail Kutuzov" Museum. It features a bust on a tall pedestal, depicting Lazarev in the image of a fleet admiral. It is important to remember that Lazarev was also the founder of Novorossiysk.
The authors of the monument are architect A. Izmodenov and sculptor A. Suvorov. The bust and pedestal are made entirely of bronze and coated with black paint for protection against oxidation. The monument was manufactured at a local ship repair plant.
The opening took place on September 12, 1996. This date was chosen deliberately: on September 12, 1838, the Lazarev squadron entered the Tsukmes Bay, defeating Turkish fortifications, which marked the beginning of the construction of the city of Novorossiysk.
