A monument to the outstanding Russian writer and poet Alexander Grin has been installed on the waterfront of the resort city of Gelendzhik. The bust is located next to the sculptural composition of the heroine of his famous novella "Scarlet Sails," Assol. The monument was unveiled on August 25, 2018, as part of the city day celebrations.

The monument was made in Kropotkin from granite and painted to resemble bronze. It weighs about 300 kg. The statue is placed on a pedestal about 2 meters high, which is engraved with quotes from Grin's works. The writer is depicted wearing a hat, with the sea and a ship sailing on the waves in front of him.

Grin's work gained wide recognition only after his death, in the 1950s. Although Grin never visited Gelendzhik, the atmosphere of his works fully corresponds to the spirit of the resort. His writings stand out for their unique style, far from naturalism, and the ability to elevate a simple story to the level of a philosophical parable with simple means. Grin's plots are always vivid and captivating, and his favorite technique was to set the action in a fictional country.
