The monument, dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Bryansk, includes the sculptural composition "Peresvet and Boyan" and a stele depicting Mother Russia. It was created in 1985 by sculptor Yu. G. Orekhov.

This anniversary monument is located on Pokrovskaya Hill, the highest point in Bryansk, and its figures are clearly visible from the Desna embankment.

The sculptures represent two heroes of the Battle of Kulikovo: the warrior-monk Alexander Peresvet and the bard Boyan, who inspired warriors with his songs. Peresvet, although a monk of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, was born in Bryansk. Boyan, with his crystal voice, hailed from the Chernigov principality, which included Bryansk. According to legend, the Battle of Kulikovo began with a duel between Peresvet and Chelubey. Both heroes died in battle.

Behind the sculptural group of the two warriors stands a white stele, the contours of which resemble those of an Orthodox church. At the top of the stele is a figure of a woman, symbolizing Mother Russia.

The figure of the woman is made of bronze and shines brightly on sunny days. She holds a sickle and hammer, which are also depicted on the coat of arms of Bryansk region, known for its hardworking residents.
