In the vicinity of the Chukotka village of Yanrakinnot stands an obelisk dedicated to the outstanding Russian naval commander Admiral Makarov. It was erected in 1974 by the crew of the whaling ship "Zvezdny".

The monument is located on the shore of the Senyavin Strait and consists of a concrete four-sided stele topped with a ship's bell. The obelisk is surrounded by a ship's chain with a small anchor attached. Memorial plaques with quotes from Admiral Makarov's works are placed on the slab and the monument. The bell is engraved with an inscription commemorating the 70th anniversary of Admiral Makarov's tragic death on the battleship "Petropavlovsk" in Port Arthur.

On the side of the stele, a metal plate is affixed with an inscription in the Chukchi language, indicating that the monument was established in 1974 by the crew of the ship "Zvezdny" under the command of Captain Leonard Votrogov.

Today, the monument is one of the most popular among local residents. In 2017, during a unique voting event, the Makarov obelisk ranked third in popularity.
