In 1987, a monument to the great Russian poet and writer was erected in Stavropol, the main city of the Stavropol Krai, timed to the 150th anniversary of his death. Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin visited this city twice. The monument is located on the southern slope of the Fortress Mountain, on Karl Marx Avenue, opposite the building of the former post station, where 200 years ago Pushkin arranged his travel document.

The authors of this Stavropol landmark are architect Yu.I. Tikhonov and sculptor E.M. Ladygin. The monument was manufactured by the Mytishchi Artistic Casting Plant in the Moscow region.

The monument features a bronze figure of the writer sitting in a chair with a thoughtful expression, as if he is composing a new masterpiece. The authors of the composition likely aimed to convey moments of creative inspiration of the great poet.
