On November 13, 2013, a monument to the poet Alexander Pushkin was unveiled in Seoul. It is located near the Lotte Hotel and department store in the Myeongdong area. In December, a square named after the great Russian poet was also established there.

The opening ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He emphasized that the installation of the monument is a recognition of the significant contribution of Russian culture to world culture and also reflects a new level of relations between Russia and the Republic of Korea.

Putin expressed hope that the monument will inspire residents and visitors of Seoul to study the Russian language, culture, and literature.

The monument, created by sculptor Nikolai Kuznetsov-Murmansky with funds raised by Russian citizens, was delivered to Seoul on a special cargo flight from Russia. This is the first monument to a foreign citizen in the capital of South Korea. The site for it was provided by the Lotte Group on their private property in the city center.
