In the fall of 1970, monuments to Pushkin and Shevchenko were unveiled in the park of the city of Monroe, located 40 miles from New York. The bronze busts of the writers are set on six-meter pedestals made of polished granite. These monuments were brought from the Soviet Union as a symbolic gift from the peoples of the Russian Federation and Ukraine to the American people.

About 4,000 guests from various cities in the USA, such as New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit, as well as from Canada, attended the ceremony in Monroe. Among the speakers were representatives from the embassies of the USSR and the USA, the United Nations, and the American-Soviet Friendship Committee.

The monuments are located in the picturesque Arrow Park, which was acquired in 1948 by residents of New York who had previously emigrated from Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. Many of them were likely not only keepers of Slavic traditions but also true connoisseurs of poetry.
