In the Chinese city of Heihe, located on the banks of the Amur River at the border with Russia, a monument to A.S. Pushkin was unveiled along with the opening of the "Pushkin Bookstore." This event took place on March 28, 2015, at 10:38 on the central Pedestrian Street.
The bronze sculpture of Pushkin, life-size, was placed on a granite pedestal. Initially, the plaque read in gold letters "father of Russian literature, pushkin." Nikolai Kukharenko, head of the International Education and Cooperation Department of BGPU, who attended the opening, noted that the Chinese, as usual, managed without Russian help, which led to mistakes. However, everything has now been corrected, and the name "Pushkin" is written with a capital letter.
The ceremony of unveiling the monument coincided with the opening of the bookstore of the "Xinhua" agency. The festive event was accompanied by the sound of firecrackers and readings of poems by the great classic. Special delight was caused by Alexander Kochetznov, the winner of the "Teacher of the Year 2015" contest in Blagoveshchensk, who read an excerpt from "Eugene Onegin" in both Russian and Chinese.
