Monument to A.S. Pushkin in Gelendzhik

Фото 1
The monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was installed on the Central Embankment of Gelendzhik in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian poet. The sketch and architectural part of the monument were developed by the chief architect of the city, Alexander Vyacheslavovich Kuznetsov, while the sculptor Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy became his co-author. The project was financed by entrepreneur Alexey Kharalampievich Kalaynichyev.

The monument is a processed block of dark gray basalt, located in the shade of an ancient poplar. A bas-relief of the poet, taken from the album of Ekaterina Nikolaevna Ushakova, is engraved on the monument. This self-portrait of Alexander Pushkin is familiar to everyone since school years. Although the poet never visited Gelendzhik, and the Gelendzhik fortification appeared a year before his death, local residents decided to honor the memory of the great Russian poet.
