The State of Eritrea is located in Northeast Africa on the coast of the Red Sea, on the eastern edge of an elevated plateau. It is known for its mild climate, clean and expressive streets, and is considered one of the safest capitals in Africa.

In the capital of Eritrea, Asmara, a monument to the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin will soon be erected in one of the central squares. In the sketch of the monument, the poet is depicted in full growth with an open book in his left hand. The idea of creating the monument arose not by chance, as Pushkin's ancestors come from Abyssinia, and the authorities of Asmara want to emphasize the connection with the great poet in this way. Thousands of residents gathered for the unveiling of the monument in the square named after Pushkin five years ago.

The author of the monument is Moscow sculptor Nikolai Kuznetsov-Muromsky, who also created a bust of Pushkin in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, and a monument in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade. The architectural design was developed by Moscow architects Maria Ozherelyeva and Mikhail Sudakov.

Eritrea, like Ethiopia, considers itself the homeland of the poet's ancestors. A monument to Pushkin has been installed in the capital of Ethiopia since 2002. Since then, the works of the Russian poet have been included in the curriculum of secondary schools in Eritrea.
