Monument to A. A. Fet in Oryol

On May 25, 1997, a monument to the poet was unveiled in Oryol on Saltykov-Shchedrin Street, near the House of Writers. A bronze bust is placed on a granite pedestal. The monument was designed by the People's Artist of Russia, sculptor N. A. Ivanov, and is executed in the style of easel art.

Afanasy Afanasevich Fet was born in the village of Novoselki, located in the Mtsensk district of the Oryol province. He graduated from the philological department of the philosophy faculty of Moscow University.

His first collection of poems, titled "Lyric Pantheon," was published in 1840. From 1845 to 1858, Fet served in the army. After retiring, he lived in Moscow, where he continued to engage in literature.

Afanasy Fet passed away in 1892 in Moscow and was buried in his estate in the village of Klemyonovo, Oryol region.
