The mansion on Starokonyushenny Lane was built in 1914 according to the design of architect Vasily Kuznetsov, who continued to work successfully in Moscow even after the revolution. This building is a cultural heritage site of regional significance.

The house belonged to lawyer V.P. Filimonov, who, unable to resist vanity, adorned the facade of his home with a semblance of a noble coat of arms. Above the arch leading to the courtyard, two lions hold a heraldic shield with the owner's monogram.

The mansion is executed in the style of late Art Nouveau with elements of Gothic. This is emphasized by the pointed completion of the arch and the triangular pediment above the three-story part of the building, resembling a tower. The exterior of the mansion resembles a small European castle, standing out against the backdrop of the classical architecture of the Arbat lanes.

The asymmetric facade, characteristic of early 20th-century architecture, gives the building dynamism: a tall section on the left and a deep arch on the right. Among the facade's decor, two elongated columns in the 'tower' section, a patterned panel between them, and original window frames have survived. Other decorative elements were lost during 20th-century renovations.

The interiors retain remnants of stucco decoration and a grand staircase.

However, connoisseurs of Moscow's antiquity appreciate this house not only for its architecture but also for its historical associations.

Firstly, in the late 18th century, the properties at 14 and 16 Starokonyushenny Lane belonged to the Fonvizin family, from which the famous playwright originated. Here, the childhood of Decembrist M.A. Fonvizin took place.

Secondly, in the literary history of Moscow, this mansion is known as 'Marguerite's house' from M.A. Bulgakov's novel. The book states that Marguerite and her husband occupied the entire top of the mansion in the garden near Arbat. Bulgakov describes this place as charming, and all the details mentioned in the novel coincide with reality: Gothic style, tower, three windows on the facade. Researchers believe that it was through the arch of this house that Marguerite flew on a broom, finding herself from Starokonyushenny Lane to Sivtsev Vrazhka.
