The long single-story mansion is located at the end of Novokuznetskaya Street, near the intersection with the Garden Ring. Although the facade of the building appears modest and lacks excessive decoration, it is part of the pre-revolutionary development of the street, a significant portion of which was lost after the war.

At first glance, the building seems cohesive, but in reality, it consists of two parts built at different times. Originally, it was the mansion of P.A. Bachurina, which later passed to I.E. Smirnova. The left part of the mansion was constructed in 1890 according to the design of architect S.V. Sherwood, the son of the well-known creator of the Historical Museum building. Unlike his father, he became known for his church buildings in Moscow and the Moscow region. Among his secular works, there are only two buildings: the mansion of M.I. Rekk on Pyatnitskaya Street, known as the 'house with lions,' and Bachurina's house on Novokuznetskaya Street.

The right part of the building was built by architect S.F. Voskresensky in 1913. He had previously worked in the Art Nouveau style, but by the time of construction on Novokuznetskaya Street, he had transitioned to neoclassicism. Voskresensky gave the building a stepped structure, shifting some parts deeper into the plot while pushing others out toward the street. As a result, the central part of the mansion is set back slightly from the red line, and a front garden with a fence is arranged between it and the protruding parts. The entrance to the house is through a porch in the right part of the mansion. The facades are adorned with floral decorations with ribbons.

During the Soviet era, it housed the political education house of the district committee of the CPSU, which was replaced in the 1990s by the joint-stock company 'Logovaz,' which organized its reception house in the mansion. The place gained media notoriety in the summer of 1994 when an assassination attempt on businessman Boris Berezovsky was made at the gates of the house: his car exploded. Later, the building changed owners several times, and recently it has housed a restaurant and a club.
