Doctor Erich Ern's Mansion in Samara

Фото 1
The mansion was built in 1902, after which Dr. Ern moved there with his family, although part of the premises was rented out to other doctors for offices and housing. The project was developed by the famous Samara architect Alexander Shcherbachev, and it is his only creation in the Art Nouveau style. The facade of the building has been preserved in its original form, except for the bas-relief of an eagle that once adorned the semicircular bay window.

The two-story mansion of Dr. Ern was distinguished by a combination of a protruding entrance and a slanted corner with a bay window. On the pediment of this bay window was a bas-relief in the shape of an eagle, which, unfortunately, has not survived. In the 2000s, various reconstruction projects for the Ern house were proposed, including the addition of a modern attic, but to the delight of admirers of Samara's Art Nouveau, they were not implemented, and the building remained in its original form.

In the 1920s, the mansion housed a branch of the Samara Cheka, later the OGPU. From 1941 to 1943, it was the embassy of the Republic of Poland in the USSR. It was in this house that Molotov and Sikorsky signed the Declaration 'On Achieving a Lasting and Just Peace' on December 4, 1941.

Currently, the building houses the outpatient clinic of the Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2.
