Siege Courtyards in Tula Kremlin

Фото 1
When you look at the open spaces inside the Kremlin walls, it is hard to imagine that there was once dense construction here. However, five centuries ago, there were more than a hundred siege courtyards in this place. Each of them included residential houses and outbuildings belonging to servicemen and military personnel. These courtyards served as temporary shelters during the defense of the city or military gatherings. For the anniversary of the Tula Kremlin, it is planned to fully recreate two such courtyards, based on archival documents, data from archaeological research, and construction technologies of that time.

In the future, regional authorities intend to turn these courtyards into a modern historical and ethnographic complex. Here, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Ancient Rus and learn about the living conditions of Tula residents in the past.
