The Orlov Military-Historical Museum is dedicated to significant historical events in the Orlov region and its residents who participated in military conflicts.

On August 5, 1983, on the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Oryol from the German-fascist invaders, the official opening of the diorama museum "Oryol Offensive Operation" took place. The day before, on August 4, the museum director Colonel A. I. Zhutikov conducted the first tour for honored guests. The museum is located in a two-story house built by merchant I. I. Chikin in 1890 from red brick. In 1983, a two-story extension was added to the side facade of the building for the diorama "Breakthrough of the German Defense near the village of Maloye Izmaylovo on July 12, 1943," created by the People's Artist of the USSR, Academician A. I. Kurnakov. In front of the main entrance, a T-70 tank, previously located in the Tankist Square, has been installed. The museum retains the old staircase to the second floor and the arched ceiling vaults of the basement. However, the old wooden windows were replaced with plastic, and the brickwork of the walls was plastered along with the new extension.

Today, the museum includes nine main exhibition halls for tours. Among them are: "Military History of the Oryol Region from Ancient Times," "The Civil War in the Territory of the Oryol Region" with the diorama "Battle near Kromy. 1919," and the Great Patriotic War with the diorama "Battle near Vyazma. 1943." In 2005, a hall dedicated to "Local Wars and Military Conflicts of the Second Half of the 20th Century" was opened in the museum. Samples of weapons and military uniforms from the medieval period, the 19th century, and the Great Patriotic War are also presented. The Military-Historical Museum is a monument to the soldier-defender, an arsenal of military glory and duty. The museum has been awarded the medal "65 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War."
