In 1888, Bialowieza Forest became the property of the royal family, received in exchange for lands in the Oryol and Simbirsk provinces. After the construction of the Bialowieza Palace, Alexander III, Nicholas II, and the grand dukes often stayed here. In the town of Bialoza, which is now located in Poland, a palace was built, a luxurious hunting residence with a park covering 50 hectares. Only the entrance gates and a few buildings around have survived to this day. Many photographs of Nicholas II during hunting remain in these places. Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna enthusiastically wrote to her aunt, Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna, on September 21, 1912, from Spala: "My dear aunt Xenia... It was terribly fun in Belogorsk. We went hunting with Olga, and I was with Anastasia only twice. I stood with him twice at the stand, starting with Prince Golitsyn, Prince Beloselsky, and once at Drentiny. It was terribly good."
