The obelisk dedicated to the feat of the Heroes of the Soviet Union I.S. Gerasimenko, A.S. Krasilov, and L.A. Cheremnov is located in Veliky Novgorod, in the square at Yaroslav's Courtyard. It was installed in November 1957 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution by the decision of the executive committee of the Novgorod City Council of Workers' Deputies from September 3, 1957, No. 195. This obelisk became the first monument in the city to immortalize the courage of the defenders and liberators of Novgorod land in 1941-1944.
The author of the monument is Lyudmila Ashikhmina.
The obelisk is designed in the shape of a truncated pyramid with granite faces. On its faces are ribbed metal stars resembling the Gold Star of the Hero. On the front side of the obelisk, facing the Volkhov River, there is a memorial plaque featuring an image of the "Gold Star" medal and the text:
"Your feat is not forgotten. Your names are immortal. To the Heroes of the Soviet Union, Sergeant Gerasimenko Ivan Savvich, Soldiers Cheremnov Leontiy Aseyevich, Krasilov Alexander Semyonovich, who covered the enemy machine-gun embrasures with their bodies in the battles for Novgorod in January 1942."
The obelisk is placed on a rectangular brick pedestal, and the surrounding area is enclosed by a metal chain.
According to the resolution of the Administration of Novgorod Oblast dated January 23, 1997, No. 21, the obelisk is recognized as a cultural heritage site and a monument of history and culture of regional significance.
