Kanadey is a village in the Nikolaevsky district, previously part of the Syzran district of the Simbirsk province. Since 1974, it has had the status of an urban-type settlement, but is now again a village. It is located on the banks of the Syzranki River, a tributary of the Volga, at the point where the Kanadeyka River flows into it. The village is 30 km east of Nikolaevka and 119 km south of Ulyanovsk. The distance to Ulyanovsk is 190 km, and to Nikolaevka, 35 km. To the south of the village runs the federal highway M-5 'Ural'. Kanadey has a railway station on the line from Moscow to Samara and the Far East. There are no significant buildings or urban fortifications in the village, except for stone churches: the Intercession of the Holy Virgin with the chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a chapel, and a almshouse, which house the administrative offices.

On the eastern outskirts of the village, in a wasteland, 120 meters from the Syzranki River, stands a large two-tiered tent tower made of bright red brick. The Kanadey tower is considered one of the oldest above-ground structures in the Ulyanovsk region. Its age is at least 270 years, and it may be much older. It is still unknown who built it, when, and for what purpose.
