While planning an expedition for the weekend, I unsuccessfully tried to gather more information about the former village of Gromazdovo. The most significant source turned out to be a satellite image showing the "shadow" of a long-lost settlement. On a rainy but not cold October day, I struggled to reach the site in an off-road vehicle with asphalt tires.

The Gromazdovo site, lost in the fields of the Pereslavl district, now presents a sad sight. Here lies a overgrown pond, a solitary mighty linden tree in the middle of a field, and an unknown chapel, covered in grass.

Judging by the fresh tracks, "black archaeologists" have recently worked here. They started by using a bulldozer to remove the top layer of soil, and then employed metal detectors. The entire site is riddled with small pits. But that is not the worst part! In search of gold coins that, according to legend, may have been buried during its construction, they undermined and destroyed all four corners of the chapel. If restoration work is not carried out in the next year, it will lead to further destruction.

The chapel retains some wooden elements of the frames and door opening, as well as some metal artifacts. Over time, the foundation of the structure has settled on the southern side. Photographs show that the chapel was painted with a lime-based paint, and the blue color that can be discerned may indicate its dedication to the Virgin Mary.
