Unknown Chapel in Abbakumtsevo

Фото 1
The chapel-tomb, one of the attractions of Nekrasovsky Zavolzhye and built with the poet's funds near the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Abbakumtsevo, had long been in a deplorable state as it was looted after the revolution.

Since 2012, the historical and cultural complex "Vyatskoye" has been engaged in the restoration of this chapel. It unexpectedly turned out that it is not listed in any registers, so the first step was to prepare all the necessary documents. Only after the chapel was recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance did the preparation of project documentation for its preservation begin.

In September 2016, the first repair and restoration works began. The monument to Nikolai Alexeyevich's mother, Elena Andreevna Nekrasova, buried next to the chapel, is also being restored. After the work is completed, the monument will return to its place. In 2017, it is planned to start the restoration of the roof and the recovery of monumental painting.

The frescoes decorating the interior of the chapel are of special value. Researchers suggest that the author could have been the academician of church-historical painting Vasily Petrovich Vereshchagin. Despite vandalism and the destructive effects of time, the frescoes have survived, and even the losses do not hide their academic rigor and precision.

The restored chapel-tomb is part of the activities of the IKK "Vyatskoye" named after E.A. Ankudinova, aimed at popularizing the poet's work and restoring cultural and historical objects related to Nekrasov's life. In 2018, the 140th anniversary of his death will be celebrated, and in 2021, in honor of the 200th anniversary of Nikolai Nekrasov's birth, large-scale events are planned. At the end of June 2016, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to celebrate the poet's anniversary and begin preparations for this event.
