In the early 21st century, the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan expanded its facilities. A part of the building in the Kazan Kremlin was allocated for a permanent exhibition of national fine and decorative applied arts. By this time, the collection of Tatar painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative applied arts had over 11,000 works. The building housing part of the museum's collection is an architectural monument in the classical style and is state-protected. It was built in 1836 according to the design of architect Pyatnitsky for one of the first military cantonal schools in Russia. Later, in the second half of the 19th century, it housed the Kazan Infantry Cadet School. The engravings and paintings by artists of that time, such as E. M. Korneev, A. N. Rakovich, V. S. Turin, E. Turnerelli, A. V. Ilyin, and A. P. Bogolyubov, clearly depict this massive, horizontally elongated structure. During the Soviet era, it housed a military garrison.

The National Art Gallery "Hazinè" opened to visitors in 2005. Its permanent exhibition features works of decorative applied arts, painting, graphics, and sculpture created by artists from Kazan, Kazan Province, and the Republic of Tatarstan in the 19th and 21st centuries. Soviet visual art can also be seen here. The artworks showcase the diversity of life in our region, nature in landscapes and still lifes, historical events in paintings, everyday life in genre scenes, as well as the individuality of creative styles and preferences from realism to avant-garde.

The "gems" of the Hazinè collection are considered to be works by N. Feshin, P. Benkov, P. Radimov, and V. Timofeev. The collection of Kazan avant-garde from the 1910s to 1930s includes works by K. Chebotaryov, I. Pleshchinsky, F. Tagirov, A. Korobkova, and V. Vilkoviskaya, as well as works by B. Urmanche, K. Yakupov, I. Zaripov, N. Kuznetsov, K. Maximov, A. Prokopyev, and V. Malikov.

In the Hazinè gallery, in addition to the permanent exhibition of visual arts, thematic and personal exhibitions of artists from Tatarstan, other regions of Russia, and abroad are held. Up to 25 exhibitions are organized here annually.
