Alarm Bell in Nizhny Novgorod

Фото 1
The bell tower with the alarm bell, which weighs over 6 tons, was installed on November 2, 2005, in Nizhny Novgorod next to the restored Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist. It was from the porch of this church that in 1612, during the Time of Troubles, the call of the elder Kozma Minin to the city's residents sounded: "Do not spare your possessions, but save the Fatherland." From here, the people's militia set out to rescue Moscow and Russia.

The bell, with a diameter of 2.5 meters, was cast by the best masters of Moscow. The location was chosen deliberately, as it was here in 1612 that Minin's call was heard, and from here the militia movement began.

A strong foundation was laid for the bell tower, as it was planned to house this work of casting art. The bell was installed in an arched opening designed as a chapel. The project of the chapel was developed by the rector of the Nizhny Novgorod Architectural and Construction University, academician Viktor Naidenko.
