On December 12, 2019, the Museum of Military Uniforms opened in the center of Moscow, created by the Russian Military Historical Society. Its main task is to preserve and popularize the traditions of Russian military service.

The museum is located in the city estate of the Vasilchikovs on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street, built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This building is a cultural heritage site of federal significance.

The museum features two permanent exhibitions. The exhibition "Uniform for a Hero" includes samples of military uniforms and equipment from the 16th century to the present day. Among the exhibits are relics from the collection of the Imperial Intendant Museum, carefully preserved until 1917. Here you can see rare experimental samples of the Russian army's uniform, items belonging to emperors, various gear and weapons from different eras, as well as authentic exhibits from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Particular attention is drawn to the reconstruction of Catherine II's Uniform Dress, made after the model of the Cavalry Guard Corps from the second half of the 18th century. Authentic uniforms of soldiers and officers from famous regiments of the Russian Imperial Army, such as the Life Guards Hussar, His Majesty's Cuirassier, and others, are also presented. Notably, the uniform of the drummer of the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment from 1809 stands out.

The exhibition "The Vasilchikov Estate," located in the ceremonial enfilade of the Main House, tells the history of the estate where the museum is located. Here you can see a model of the estate complex that formed after 1870.

In addition, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, such as "Imperial Cavalry," dedicated to the history of Russian cavalry in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and "Colors of War," representing the military chronicle of Russia through the eyes of artists. The exhibition features paintings from the collections of Russian museums.

A distinctive feature of the museum is the use of modern multimedia technologies, such as touch panels, widescreen displays, and projections, which provide access to information about Russian military uniforms from the 16th to the 21st century and contribute to the study of the country's military history.
