The children's museum 'In the World of Fairy Tales' is part of the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve and was opened in December 1992. For many residents of Smolensk, this museum becomes the first in their lives, playing an important role in preparing children for visits to other exhibitions and forming a museum culture. It opens up an amazing world of museums for young visitors. The exhibits placed in the museum's interiors create scenes from well-known folk and Pushkin's fairy tales. Children, coming here for the first time, find themselves among familiar characters they have already been told about and read about, while adults are once again immersed in the world of childhood.

The museum 'In the World of Fairy Tales' features the best exhibits from the collection of the Smolensk Museum-Reserve: a silver feeding horn for infants made by the Moscow craftsman Gavrila Ustinov, a painted chest from 1839, and painted sleds from the Vologda region made over a hundred years ago. Here, you can also see folk toys, such as those from Dymkovo, Filimonovo, and Bogorodsk. Both adults and children are delighted by the porcelain doll tea set from Germany, which could have been used by Thumbelina or Tom Thumb. Tiny apple-shaped cups on leaf-shaped saucers, along with a pear-shaped milk jug, a pumpkin-shaped teapot, and a pineapple-shaped sugar bowl, sit on a tray that fits in the palm of your hand. A special favorite among visitors is the magical corner of the museum, where a hut on chicken legs is located along with its owner Baba Yaga.

The museum's hall is decorated with children's works. Many children bring their drawings and crafts here. Tours in the museum include elements of a theatrical performance, where the characters of fairy tales come to life and set interesting challenges for visitors.
