The V. I. Surikov Museum-Estate is located in the historic home of the famous artist. It was opened in 1948 in honor of the centenary of the outstanding master’s birth. The museum's collection includes 1,300 exhibits, of which 92 paintings belong to Surikov himself.

Vasily Ivanovich Surikov was born on January 12, 1848. In 1854, his father moved to the village of Sukhoi Buzim for work, now known as Sukhobuzimskoye. After his father's death in 1859, his mother returned with the children. In 1868, Vasily moved to St. Petersburg.

The idea of creating a museum dedicated to Surikov emerged in the 1920s, but at that time, the house was occupied by the family of his younger brother Alexander. A drawing school was opened in the building. In 1926, a memorial plaque was installed on the house in honor of the artist. After Alexander Surikov's death in 1930, part of the furniture and belongings were transferred to the local history museum, and the descendants decided to gift the house to the authorities.

The former home of Surikov was lived in for some time by the famous artist Dmitry Karatanov, who became the first teacher at the drawing school. Various institutions occupied part of the house, such as the local branch of the artists' union and other cultural organizations. By the end of the 1940s, the house was completely vacated, and on June 5, 1948, the museum exhibition was opened.

The artist's daughter actively participated in organizing the museum's work and collecting exhibits. In the first ten years after its opening, relatives donated about 30 paintings to the museum. In the 1950s, early watercolors were transferred from the local history museum, and in the 1960s, descendants gifted Surikov's self-portrait from 1902 and other famous works. In the 1970s, the building was restored to return its historical appearance, and the arrangement of the exhibits was changed to reflect a chronological order. The first floor was restored to recreate the atmosphere of a 19th-century Siberian urban home.

In 1983, the museum received the status of a museum-estate, and the first Surikov Days were held, timed to the 135th anniversary of the artist. Surikov's grandchildren donated another 17 paintings to the museum, and in 1988, M. Konchalovsky gifted 10 works and personal belongings of the family. In 2002, a monument to V. I. Surikov was installed at the estate.

Today, the museum not only conducts tours and preserves its collections but also organizes temporary exhibitions and concerts. The estate's collections are of great interest to painting enthusiasts, as they house original works by Surikov, such as the watercolor "Rafts on the Yenisei," sketches and studies for his famous works, including "Boyarina Morozova," "The Conquest of Siberia by Yermak," "Stepan Razin," "Not Made by Hands," "Annunciation," and others. A significant part of the collection consists of portraits of family members.

In addition to paintings, the exhibition features personal belongings of the artist, clothing, headwear, accessories, photographs, an easel, brushes, and other painting supplies.
