The museum is located on the grounds of the former estate that belonged to the Chernyshevsky and Pypin families. The complex includes memorial buildings: the Chernyshevsky family house, the wing of O. S. Chernyshevskaya, the house of the Pypin family, who were close to the Chernyshevskys, as well as the Pypin wing and an administrative building, which features the historical and literary exhibition "A Worthy Son of the Fatherland."
This museum complex, situated on the grounds of a city estate from the first half of the 19th century, preserves the culture of the diverse social class, which gives it special value. The memorial and domestic exhibition in the Chernyshevsky house uses museum resources to tell the story of the life of a provincial priest's family, where a talented boy grew up. The picturesque estate with 19th-century buildings, a simple and cozy house, items that hold the memory of its inhabitants, unique memorial exhibits, and a high level of guided service make the museum attractive to a wide range of visitors.
