Izmaylovo was the ancestral estate of the Romanov boyars. Between 1565 and 1572, Tsar Ivan the Terrible transferred the village of Izmaylovo to the boyar Nikita Romanovich Zakharin-Yuriev, the brother of his first wife, Anastasia Romanovna. In 1654, this estate was inherited by his great-grandson, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich.

The new estate impressed the tsar with its hunting grounds, and in the 1660s, large-scale work began in Izmaylovo to create a modern royal estate. It was during this time that the old village was transformed into an island, dividing the Serebryanka River with a dam into two branches that surrounded the land. Izmaylovsky Island has preserved unique architectural monuments of the 17th and 19th centuries, such as the Bridge Tower, the complex of the Front Court of the Tsar, the Iron Gates, and other historical buildings.

Today, the Izmaylovo estate museum hosts museum exhibitions, holds exhibitions and educational programs, as well as various concerts and music festivals. The event schedule can be found on the website.
