Charles Aznavour, a renowned French chansonnier, composer, poet, writer, and actor of Armenian descent, was born on May 22, 1924, in Paris and passed away on October 1, 2018, in Muri, Switzerland. His real name was Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian.

Throughout his career, Aznavour created around 1300 songs, appeared in 60 films, and sold over 200 million records. In a poll conducted by Time magazine and CNN, he was recognized as the best pop performer of the 20th century and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

From May 5, 2009, until his death, Aznavour served as Armenia's ambassador to Switzerland and was the country's permanent representative to the UN. He spent the last 40 years of his life in Switzerland. In France, he faced criticism for his discontent with the government's plans to impose a 75% tax on those earning over 1 million euros and for moving to Switzerland for this reason.

Until the end of his life, Aznavour remained active on stage. Over his 85-year career, he released 294 albums and gave around 1100 concerts in 94 countries worldwide.
